❝But I tell you, do not swear
an oath at all:
either by Heaven, for it is God’s throne;
or by the earth,
for it is His footstool;
or by Jerusalem, for it is the
city of the Great King.
And do not swear by your head,
for you cannot make even
one hair white
or black.
All you need to say is simply 'Yes' or 'No';
anything beyond this comes from
the evil one.
—Matthew 5:34-37

You were also called to protect, were you not?

[ Dainsleif is already indulging in a drink right in front of him, if she is going to do the very same...no judgment. ]
I figured that others would have fallen for that themselves when I saw who else was in here with me.

...I feel like a true fool.

All I could think about was how Sika had suffered under the divine. I thought we were similar, in having such misfortunes dealt to us, with no fault of our own. I was also blinded by my bias.
Though, I did suspect that not everything was perfect. But, I did not judge Sika to be a cruel individual. My first indication that I made a mistake were the revelations at the meeting.
[ Dainsleif's feelings on the matter are still complicated. Though, in the end, he is letting himself become used to the hurt, taking a gulp of his drink. ]
I keep thinking "If I had done this or that"...but, in the end, it is the heart that can rule over logic. Still, I hope to prove Sika wrong in some way, regardless. [ It's an idiotic notion, because surely people have already tried, right? This person, still clinging to the past, and now, this. They're all here, after all. ] Until then, we can all feel foolish together, while doing what we can, going forward.

[A pause, then considering]
A future that they may need to open their eyes to, that does not trap them deep within the past.

[ Dainsleif feels that she put it correctly, and ironically, as he's mulling on this, as she says the following that comes next, he finds himself in agreement as well. There is no dismissing how he felt at the revelation, at now this, but...he still feels strongly about them not letting the past entrap them.
Although, he lets out a little sigh, shaking his head as he mulls over this - the complicated nature of these sentiments, even his own past, and their situation. ]
...do you remember, when we spoke before on the stubbornness of long-lived individuals?
We'll have our work cut out for us, Don.

[!! LETS FIGHT GODS AND THE DEVIL]
smh
[ Dainsleif says this in one of his serious tones, yet with an element of actual persistent defiance, despite the weariness still seeping in.
Then, he decides to lift his drink up, after facing her. ]
How about it? To everyone's future mutual victory—and collective freedom.
:)
Forsooth! We shall emerge triumphant and free!

Then, after that, he downs it in one go. ]
